The Tokyo International Film Festival will undergo a major gear change as it relocates its main venue from Roppongi to the Hibiya, Ginza, and Yurakucho area, invites new programmers, and reorganizes its sections.

This year’s festival will advocate “transcending borders” as one of its main themes. Borders and divides take many forms in today’s world — communication breakdowns caused by the pandemic, gender discrimination, economic disparity, international conflict — but it is the Festival’s hope that participants may get a glimpse of what the future of cinema may hold when it transcends these barriers and braves its path towards a bright future.

Many international co-productions are scheduled to be screened during the festival, including ” INU-OH” (Japanese Animation), which was made with the support of an international co-production grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and ” Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash” (World Focus), which was selected for the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market last year and won the Golden Leopard (Grand Prix) at the Locarno International Film Festival. We hope you enjoy these films, which are both creatively and financially international!
